The JNU sexual harassment controversy has escalated into a political confrontation, with Congress MP Bimol Akoijam denying the allegations and challenging the university’s inquiry. Akoijam has described the internal probe as a “khap panchayat”, alleged violations of due process and the POSH Act, and vowed to challenge his dismissal in court. Delhi Police has issued him a notice to join the investigation. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has questioned the university’s action, while BJP leaders have approached the National Commission for Women and submitted a memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu. The dispute now centres on accountability, complainant privacy and due process.
