Tamil Nadu’s political landscape is witnessing a significant shift as Vijay emerges as a central figure in post-election alliance negotiations. With the results delivering a fractured mandate, no party has secured a clear majority, opening the door for coalition politics in the state. The Indian National Congress, holding five MLAs, has expressed willingness to support Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, on the condition that communal forces are kept out of the alliance. The party is also reportedly eyeing a longer-term understanding ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. However, Vijay still requires support from at least six additional MLAs to cross the majority mark. Smaller parties such as the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Left parties, and the All India Moovendar Munnani Kazhagam are also being considered as potential allies in this emerging coalition arithmetic. Meanwhile, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is actively exploring its own options, with senior leaders reportedly engaging in backchannel discussions with Vijay’s camp. As negotiations continue and multiple combinations remain possible, Tamil Nadu’s political future now appears to hinge on rapidly evolving alliance dynamics, with Vijay positioned at the centre of the unfolding power equation.
