US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says India and the United States are very close to reaching a trade agreement, with only a few issues left to be negotiated. In an exclusive interview with India Today, Rubio tells Raj Chengappa that he is optimistic about a deal, adding that he cannot foresee anything preventing an agreement. Responding to questions about India's demand for a competitive tariff advantage in the interim trade deal, Rubio declines to disclose the details while negotiations continue, stressing that the final agreement must benefit both countries. Rubio also addresses India's concerns over trade policy unpredictability and the need for continuity in tariffs, particularly amid concerns surrounding the Super 301 provision. He says the purpose of an agreement is to provide certainty for businesses, enabling them to invest with a clearer understanding of the rules governing trade and commerce between the two countries. Will the India-US trade deal deliver the tariff certainty New Delhi is seeking? Watch the exclusive conversation with Marco Rubio on India Today.
