Fortis Healthcare Group CEO Vishal Bali has resigned from the company. The healthcare major, while announcing that his resignation has been accepted, said Bali would continue in the position till the end of March 2014 to aid smooth transition.

"The company has accepted the resignation of of its Group CEO Vishal Bali following his desire to move on," Fortis Healthcare said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

"Going forward, Bali's responsibilities will be shared by Shivinder Singh, Executive Vice Chairman and Aditya Vij, who as CEO India will continue to oversee the Indian business," the company said.

Bali said his decision to move on is personal. "After having spent nearly two and a half decades in the sector, I now feel, the desire to do something new and entrepreneurial in healthcare," he said.

Commenting on the development, Shivinder Singh said: "Vishal has served the company with commitment and passion. We truly appreciate all his efforts and respect his desire to pursue newer goals."
