Delhi election results: AAP win pushes up price of brooms

A broom normally sells for Rs 30-50 but because of an imminent AAP victory in the Delhi elections, the commodity is selling for Rs 200 apiece.

The humble 'jhadu' - the election symbol of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) - on Tuesday sold for Rs 200 a piece here as frenzied celebrations erupted after the party swept the Delhi assembly election.

A broom normally sells for Rs 30-50.

But despite the cost, AAP supporters still bought the brooms - to wave as they celebrated on the streets and outside party offices.

Shopkeepers said there was hectic buying since Monday in anticipation of an AAP victory even as AAP supporters complained that many shops ran out of their stock of brooms.
