The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has proposed a 30% property tax rebate on eligible self-occupied residential properties for women, men aged 65 and above, and persons with disabilities. The proposed relief is limited to qualifying properties with a built-up area of up to 100 square metres, subject to specified conditions. Tax Expert Gauri Chaddha explains how the proposal could reduce municipal tax payments and whether it offers any additional income tax benefits. While homeowners may save on their property tax bills, the income tax deduction could also fall as the amount paid decreases. Public feedback has been invited.
