Vehicles in emergency services, government duties and election services shall remain exempt. The Delhi government has lifted a ban on BS-4 diesel and BS-3 petrol vehicles in the national capital from Monday in view of stable air quality, according to Delhi Transport Department. An official of the Delhi Transport Department told news agency ANI that they are monitoring the situation and will update if there is an increase in AQI levels.
The official said, “AQI level has been stable for the last few days and no new order has been issued regarding this ban, so it will not be effective from tomorrow. We’re monitoring the situation, if there is an increase in AQI, we’ll review the situation.”
A meeting will also be held on Monday to ascertain whether these curbs shall continue or not. Vehicles in emergency services, government duties and election services shall remain exempt.
The Delhi Transport Department banned the operation of BS-4 diesel and BS-3 petrol vehicles in the national capital on the direction of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) in view of the increased pollution levels after Diwali.
The CAQM said in a statement, “The Air Quality Index (AQI) has been showing an increasing trend for the last two days in Delhi-NCR. Wind conditions have not been very favourable and accordingly dispersion of air pollutants has not been very effective.”
Delhi’s air quality improved on Monday but was in the ‘very poor’ category with an AQI of 309, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR). Dhirpur recorded an AQI of 375, Lodhi Road recorded 256, Delhi Airport Terminal 3 recorded an AQI of 306, Mathura Road had an AQI of 316 and Pusa recorded an AQI of 293.
