Gurugram issues work-from-home advisory for Tuesday following heavy rain and flooding

Torrential downpours threw normal life out of gear across Gurugram on Monday, inundating major arterial roads, paralyzing commuter movement, and stranding vehicles in traffic jams stretching up to 4 km.

In response to the widespread waterlogging and gridlock across the district, the local administration stepped in with a preventive measure to clear the roads.

The District Disaster Management Authority in Gurugram issued a work-from-home advisory for Tuesday, August 25. The directive extends across corporate offices, private firms, government institutions, and schools throughout the district.

"In view of the heavy rainfall in Gurugram on 24 August 2026, there is a possibility of waterlogging and traffic congestion at various locations across the district," said the notice issued by the deputy commissioner.

According to the official order, the move aims to minimize non-essential travel while local civic bodies attempt urgent restoration and drainage operations across inundated zones.

"The advisory will help reduce traffic congestion and facilitate smooth repair and maintenance works on roads and drains by civic agencies," the notice added further.

The administration's directive follows an intense spell of precipitation triggered by an orange alert from the India Meteorological Department for Gurugram and neighboring Faridabad. Although the meteorological department later downgraded the warning to a yellow alert for the broader Delhi-NCR region as conditions stabilized, the initial downpour caused extensive civic disruption.

Floodwaters ranging from ankle-deep to knee-deep covered crucial transit routes and residential sectors. Severe waterlogging was reported in Sector 10 near Euro International School, South City-1, Sector 69's Tulip Chowk and its 60-metre road, Narsinghpur, sectors 9, 14, and 45, DLF Phase 3's V Block, Ardee City towards Sector 52, Sector 52A, Sector 5, and the Airia Mall stretch along Sohna Road.

Traffic management personnel were deployed to clear bottlenecks, divert vehicles, and clear major intersections.

With civic teams mobilized for drainage and road repair work overnight, officials hope the temporary shift to remote operations on Tuesday will prevent secondary gridlock and expedite urban recovery.
