A man has been arrested in Delhi for allegedly killing a 26-year-old woman, chopping her into 35 pieces and scattering the pieces across Delhi. Identified as Aftab Amin Poonawalla, the man has been held after five months of committing the brutal crime.
The accused was in a live-in relationship with the victim, Shraddha. Poonawalla revealed to the police that Shraddha was pressuring him to get married and that they had started to quarrel frequently about it.
On May 18, Poonawalla allegedly strangled his partner after a quarrel. He did not stop there. Instead, he then dismembered her body with a sharp weapon and stored the body pieces in a newly bought fridge.
These stored pieces were disposed of by him at night at various locations across Delhi for the next 16 days.
Shraddha's father, Vikas Madan, lodged an FIR for his missing daughter at the Mehrauli police station in Delhi on November 8. In the complaint, Vikas stated that he lives with his family in Maharashtra's Palghar and that his daughter Shraddha, who worked at a call centre in Mumbai, has been missing after May 2022.
He mentioned that Shraddha met Poonawalla at the call centre and decided to move in to Delhi, despite opposition from her family. The couple rented a flat in Delhi's Chhattarpur area. Vikas added that for the past five months, he has not been able to contact her.
An investigation revealed that Shraddha was murdered in May. Delhi Police nabbed Poonawalla from Chhattarpur flat and took him for questioning. After interrogating him, the police started a search for the victim's body parts, during which a few bones were recovered from the forested area of the city. Further investigation is still underway.
