Transforming Tourism In Maharashtra | Exclusive With Shri Sanjay Khandare, IAS

In an interview with Business Today, Shri Sanjay Khandare, (IAS), Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism, Government of Maharashtra said tourism currently contributes 9% to Maharashtra's GSDP, with a target of 14% by 2034. The state is focusing on sustainable tourism through environmental conservation, community participation, responsible infrastructure, and technology-driven destination management. Major investments by Tata, Leela, and Mahindra Holidays are planned in destinations like Sindhudurg, Tadoba, Matheran, and Ratnagiri. Key initiatives include an underwater museum in Sindhudurg, development of 100 tourism circuits with a ₹2,400 crore investment, and the launch of the Mahatithi portal to better manage tourism across the state.
