Maruti Suzuki Executive Director for Marketing & Sales R.S. Kalsi said, "Swift and DZire are two of the most popular cars in India. Both have played an instrumental role in shaping the Indian passenger car industry. Known for contemporary styling, superior comfort and performance, we have decided to strap driver and co-driver airbags along with and anti-lock braking system (ABS) across all variants of Swift and DZire."

Many other carmakers have already made airbags standard for their models. Volkswagen has put airbags on its Polo hatchback and so has Toyota - across all its cars. Nissan has also put drive driver side airbag in its popular Micra hatchback.
