SpiceJet has been the first off the blocks to announce a festive discount sale with fares starting as low as Rs 749 base fare (excluding taxes) for domestic and Rs 3,999 all in for international sectors.

More than 3,00,000 seats are available as part of the sale. The three-day sale, launched on Tuesday, will be open till midnight of October 29 and the travel period covered in this sale is February 1 to October 29, 2016. There is limited inventory under the offer, and seats will be available on first-come-firstserved basis. The offer cannot be combined with any other offer and the sale fares are not applicable on group bookings.

"The Diwali sale by SpiceJet announced on Tuesday has brought cheer to travellers. The attractive pricing across routes is being very well received by travellers and we are already seeing bookings increase by more than 178 per cent and anticipate a further increase over the next two days as the promotion gathers momentum," said Sharat Dhall, president, Yatra.com. The all-inclusive, one-way fare, applicable on direct flights, encompasses all the metro cities and some of the most-attractive tourist destinations in the country.

Under this offer, tickets on routes like Delhi-Amritsar and Ahmedabad-Mumbai are priced at Rs 749 (base fare, taxes will be additional). While within the international sectors, the sale offer is on for popular routes like Chennai-Colombo at Rs 3,999 all-in among others. Civil aviation expert Jeetendra Bhargava said, "It is a very normal marketing practice to sell the 10-15 per cent seats in advance that normally go vacant on airlines.

Other airlines such as IndiGo, GoAir and Jet Airways are bound to come up with similar offers as they would not like to lose market share." The SpiceJet offer will increase competition in the market, he further added.
