Initially, Xiaomi was always accused of copying design elements from bigger and older smartphone brands . After years of building smartphones, the company has finally managed to create an image of its own. Now, it seems Xiaomi might want to take its smartphone game a notch above.

In a leaked video, on Youku, a user holds a bent smartphone display that is most certainly running the latest version of MIUI. The branding on the bent screen couldn't be detected but judging by the operating system it might be a Xiaomi device.

In the video, the user is seen switching between apps and games on the MIUI 8. Due to the lack of any hardware keys on the screen, the user had to operate the basic functions like 'back' and 'home' using a quick ball, which is a floating-bubble in the MIUI  8.

During the video, the user handling the phone did not bend the device in more than one direction. The app transitions were smooth and the screen quality looked more than decent.

Bendable screens have been in the prototype phase since 2008, many major smartphone manufacturers like Samsung even went public with the technology, at a CES event, but none have made it to the commercial market as of now.

After the major debacle in the form of Note 7, Samsung will be wanting to restore its image as a reliable innovator by pioneering a new segment in the smartphone industry, similar to the Note line-up.
