One Xiaomi 12 series smartphone may come with an under-display selfie camera

At least one of the Xiaomi 12 series smartphones is likely to come with an under-display selfie camera. The smartphone maker is likely to launch multiple phones as part of its flagship Xiaomi 12 series, including the much talked about Xiaomi 12 Ultra. However, it's the Xiaomi 12 Pro which might get special treatment with an under-display selfie shooter. A few videos of a Xiaomi phone running MIUI 13 have surfaced online and, according to Android Headlines, the device showcased in the videos could be the upcoming Xiaomi 12 Pro.

The smartphone in the video is definitely an unreleased Xiaomi product. The phone has slightly curved edges, tiny bezels, and no camera cutout, which means the front camera should be under its display. The smartphone shown in the video also lacks an earpiece. Xiaomi may use its piezoelectric speaker technology on the Xiaomi 12 Pro. This is the same tech which was used on the Mi Mix phone.

There is a chance that Xiaomi may have used a digital render to show MIUI 13 and the phone in video is never launched. But, it would not have taken the risk so close to the Xiaomi 12 series launch. The Xiaomi 12 phones should be announced later this month. And, at least one of them is likely to have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor.

This processor is the successor to the Snapdragon 888 and 888+, and it should offer various upgrades to its processing power and AR capabilities. All the Xiaomi 12 series smartphones are expected to have high refresh rate AMOLED screens and large batteries. The Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro are reported to have a 50-megapixel main camera. The Xiaomi 12 Ultra could rock a 108-megapixel sensor or even one with more megapixels.

Some reports suggest that Xiaomi may also launch a fourth Xiaomi 12 Lite phone which can be powered by some other processor. It is also expected to have the design language and software of its more expensive siblings. The Xiaomi 12 Lite could be announced later than the rest of the phones of the series.
