A 42-year-old Zomato delivery agent was recently arrested for molesting a 19-year-old girl in Pune's Yewalewadi area. Zomato has issued an official statement on the matter and said that the company has nothing to do with the delivery agent. The incident occurred on September 17.

In the official statement, Zomato highlighted the company's zero-tolerance policy towards such behavior and conducts third-party background verifications while onboarding anyone.

"We have been in touch with the authorities to cooperate with the investigation. We conduct third-party background verifications while onboarding any person to our fleet and have a zero-tolerance policy," Zomato stated in its official statement. Another report coming from ANI quoted Zomato and noted that the accused is not its delivery partner.

The online food delivery platform said that it is cooperating with the authorities in the investigation.

Going by the complaint filed by the 19-year-old girl stated that she was molested by the 42-year-old Zomato executive at the time of delivery of food she ordered through the app. The incident took place in Pune's Yewalewadi area. As per reports, at the time of delivery, the 42-year-old Zomato delivery agent, named Raees Shailj, asked for water and later grabbed her and tried kissing. Later, the second year engineering student filed an FIR and the delivery agent was arrested immediately.

Well, this isn't the first time that such an incident like this has been reported against these online food delivery agents. While Zomato refused to admit that the accused was its official delivery partner, the question remains - how did the accused reach the girl's home and deliver food? It is the food delivery platforms that should build safety measures and ensure that such incidents do not occur again.
