A US raid in Caracas on January 3 that reportedly captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has triggered global outrage, reviving fears over sovereignty violations and regime-change tactics. To analyse the wider fallout, India Today speaks with Ian Bremmer, President of the Eurasia Group and author of the Top Risks 2026 report. Bremmer argues that the US has become unpredictable and unreliable, forcing countries to hedge. He says India is better placed than most, citing its strategic value to Washington, limited US trade dependence, strong ties with the G7, Gulf nations and the Global South, and consistent leadership. Bremmer adds that in a G-Zero world, raw power matters more than rules, pushing nations to diversify partnerships and accelerate trade agreements.
