Maruti Suzuki India Ltd’s share in electric vehicle exports out of India is around 90% despite having a single model, the e-Vitara SUV, on offer.

Maruti Suzuki’s share in total passenger vehicle exports out of India rose to 55% in the financial year 2026-27.

“India is very important hub of manufacturing cars for Suzuki Group. We represent about 55% of total PV export from India. Our domestic market share this year so far is about 41%, but this year our export is reaching 55% of total export from India,” Takeuchi said.

The Maruti Suzuki MD & CEO is betting that India's future mobility market will be defined by a mix of technologies rather than a rapid shift to electric vehicles alone. The carmaker is making a big bet on biogas as a potential solution to both transport emissions and air pollution.

“The air quality is also very important issue, especially the people living in Delhi or other big cities in India. It is very important issue. So, biogas actually will solve those problems because the biogas is made using the biomass, which means the biogas is carbon neutral or carbon negative. So, if you drive the cars with using biogas, which means those cars are 100% carbon neutral or even carbon negative, so which means better than EV,” Takeuchi explains.

Maruti Suzuki’s board recently approved four biogas plants in the first phase at a cost of Rs 561 crore. India’s biggest carmaker plans to learn more about the process and technology and invest substantial amounts of money in the production and distributions of biogas. It believes biogas will provide zero emission fuel and reduce the pressure on CNG and on burning coal for generating electricity.
