Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani breaks into US Top 10 weekend box office chart

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, the Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone starrer, earned a whopping $1.6 million at the US box office to break into the Top 10 weekend box office charts.

The Ayan Mukerji-directed movie, which also stars Kalki Koechlin and Aashiqui 2 star Aditya Roy Kapoor, opened in 162 theatres in the US on May 31.

Box-office analyst Paul Dergarabedian told the New York Post that it was "very unusual to see a Bollywood film in top 10", asserting that sometimes these movies did crack into the top 20 or top 15 (domestically).

He said they are usually not released in that many theatres but make a big splash.

The top earners at the US box office over the weekend gone by are:

4. Epic - $16.4 million
4. Star Trek: Into Darkness - $16.4 million

9. Mud - $1.2 million
