Railway Budget 2015: Suresh Prabhu unveils key goals, drivers

drivers he has set for the railways in the coming years.

Presenting his maiden Rail Budget for the financial year 2015-16, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Thursday unveiled the key goals and drivers he has set for the railways in the coming years.
FOUR GOALS:
- Deliver a sustained and measurable improvement in customer experience
- Make rail a safer means of travel
- Expand Bharatiya Rail's capacity substantially and modernise infrastructure
- Make the Railways financially self-sustainable
FIVE DRIVERS:
- Adopting a medium-term perspective
- Building partnerships
- Leveraging additional resources
- Revamping management practices, systems and processes and re-tooling of human resources
- Setting standards for governance and transparency
The minister promised to balance the needs of passengers with the long-term interests of the world's fourth largest rail network, so that it can be benchmarked globally on quality, safety and reach.
