Google could roll out dark mode for desktop search engine soon. The search giant was spotted testing the feature. This is the second time Google has been found testing the dark mode for the search engine. Prior to this, Google was spotted testing the feature in December. Most apps including Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram had rolled out the dark mode.

As per the report by The Verge, Google has been testing the feature with selected users and some of the users who had received the feature were able to change the background of Google to dark grey. Google had confirmed that it is testing a new feature. "We're always testing new ways to improve our experience for our users, but don't have anything specific to announce right now," Google told The Verge.

Several users have received a notification on windows and Mac to try out the new dark theme for Google. An XDA report states that the user will have the option to set the theme on Google Light, Dark, and System Default. If you choose the System default, the theme on the search engine would match the theme of your computer. It is important to note that the dark theme was available on the Google app for Android but now Google is working to get the feature on desktop.

Earlier, a 9to5 report had stated that once the feature is turned on, the multi-colored Google logo will turn white, there will be no changes in the microphone. The fonts would appear in white whereas the links would continue to appear in blue.

"The white background switches to a dark gray hue that matches first-party mobile apps. Google's logo is white instead of being multi-colored — though the microphone icon is unchanged, while the gray outline of the search field is reversed. The usually colorful icons representing the different filters (All, Images, News, etc.) are just blue, with the tab accent color similar," the report stated.

Google had earlier rolled out the dark mode for some of its apps including the Google Pay app, Google Translate, Google Docs, Google Chrome on desktop among others. So till Google rolls out the dark mode for Search on desktop, you could use the extension on Chrome called Dark Reader, which would help you in applying dark them to not just Google but also other websites.
