Instagram's new update to tackle cyber-bullying within the app

Instagramhas pushed out a new update that will help users to have better control overtheir comment section. Users can now filter comments that have words that theyfind abusive or degrading in any fashion.

Accordingto CEO and co-founder of Instagram, Kevin Systrome, "all different typesof people - from diverse backgrounds, races, genders, sexual orientations,abilities and more - call Instagram home, but sometimes the comments on theirposts can be unkind. To empower each individual, we need to promote a culturewhere everyone feels safe to be themselves without criticism or harassment.It's not only my personal wish to do this, I believe it's also ourresponsibility as a company."

To accessthe new feature, the user can tap on the settings button on top right of theirprofile page and then scroll down to a new "Comments" option wherethey can turn on this new feature that will not only filter generally abusivecomments but the profile-owner can also add custom keywords that need to befiltered.

The movecomes at a time when big celebrities on Instagram are either threatening tomake their profile private or delete it entirely. Last month Justin Bieberdeleted his Instagram account in light of abusive comments he received on aparticular post.
