A number of employees at Google and Amazon have called out against their companies' contract with the Israeli government. The workers have noted that their companies have signed a contract worth $1.2 billion called Project Nimbus, a venture that the workers noted: "will provide cloud services to the Israeli government, specifically including the military." The workers noted that the services encompass both storage and computational resources, as well as features that enable users to easily train powerful artificial intelligence.

The workers told NBC News that they have in a joint letter asked Amazon and Google to cancel Project Nimbus and protect Palestinian human rights. The workers noted that they work with the tech giants because they have a huge impact on people globally, however, they said they were not naive about the harm that technology enables.

"The technology our companies have contracted to build will make the systematic discrimination and displacement carried out by the Israeli military and government even crueler and deadlier for Palestinians," the Google and Amazon workers said in a post published in The Guardian.

"As workers who keep these companies running, we are morally obligated to speak out against violations of these core values. For this reason, we are compelled to call on the leaders of Amazon and Google to pull out of Project Nimbus and cut all ties with the Israeli military. So far, more than 90 workers at Google and more than 300 at Amazon have signed this letter internally. We are anonymous because we fear retaliation."

Earlier this year, a group of Jewish Google employees called out on the company to increase its support of Palestinians. In a letter addressed to Google CEO Sundar Pichai, the workers condemned the attacks and asked for "direct recognition of the harm done to Palestinians by Israeli military and gang violence." As per a report by The Verge, the group wanted Google to listen to its Palestinian employees, fund relief for Palestinians affected by military violence, protect freedom of speech, and recognize the pain. They also urged Google to terminate any business contracts which support "Israeli violations of Palestinian human rights, such as the Israeli Defense Forces."
