Ford to bring its iconic Mustang sports car to India

Ford Mustang, which signifies the wild and free-roaming horses of the American West, was unveiled in India on Thursday, though its price still remains a big secret. For a fully imported unit, motoring enthusiasts are expected to shell out a heavy amount, which would be revealed closer to the launch after this April.

Mustang, one of the most iconic badges in automotive history, will hit the Indian market later this year, coming as an enviable competitor to the BMW Z4, Audi TT and the Mercedes-Benz AMG portfolio of two-door sports cars sold in the Indian market.

Ford Mustang, which signifies the wild and free-roaming horses of the American West, was unveiled in India on Thursday, though its price still remains a big secret. For a fully imported unit, motoring enthusiasts are expected to shell out a heavy amount, which would be revealed closer to the launch after this April.

At its pre-Auto Expo show, Ford executives said that the India-spec version of Mustang GT will be strapped with the top-of-the-line 5.0-litre V8 engine delivering more than 420 horsepower and 529 Nm of torque.

Currently in its sixth generation, Ford first launched the Mustang way back in 1964with more than nine million vehicles sold worldwide. Ford India said that the right-hand-drive (RHD) car would be specially manufactured for the Indian market.

Nigel Harris, President, Ford India said, "The new Ford Mustang is a one-of-a-kind vehicle and is going to appeal to Indian drivers who value the style, performance, and heritage that the Mustang name brings. With advanced new technology, an iconic design, and world-class power, it truly sets a new standard."

Ford has put a series of smart technologies in the Mustang for drivers carrying enhanced information, control, and connectivity. It has the SYNC connectivity system that allows drivers to control their in-car entertainment using voice commands, keeping their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

Premium features like navigation, push button start, passive entry, power folding mirrors, and a rear camera are all standard on the Mustang. Besides, selectable drive modes (SDM) allows easy choice of normal, snow/wet, sport and track allowing steering to quickly adjust to vehicle stability settings.
