At the Global Fintech Fest 2026, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari highlighted the massive benefits of India’s FASTag system. Gadkari said FASTag has helped save around 71 crore hours of travel time annually and 56 crore litres of fuel, worth about ₹5,250 crore. He pegged the economic value of time saved at ₹68,500 crore per year. Gadkari said barrier-free tolling will further reduce waiting time, fuel consumption and pollution. He also highlighted FASTag’s interoperability across toll plazas, calling it more than a toll payment system — a digital infrastructure for mobility. Gadkari stressed that technology should ultimately save people’s time and money.
