Gurugram Floods: ₹1,400 Crore Spent On Drainage, So Why Is The City Still Sinking?

Gurugram, India’s Millennium City and a global corporate hub, was brought to a standstill after heavy rainfall left major roads, neighbourhoods and highways waterlogged. Around 75 mm of rain was recorded between 8 am and 5 pm, with school buses stranded and massive traffic jams reported, particularly around Subhash Chowk. The District Disaster Management Authority issued a work-from-home advisory as the situation worsened. But the bigger question is about Gurugram’s drainage infrastructure. Reports indicate that around ₹1,400 crore has been spent over the past decade on upgrading the city’s drainage system. Yet every monsoon brings back the same scenes. So where is the money going—and why does Gurugram continue to flood?
