Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded a historic two-day visit to New Zealand, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in 40 years. Modi and Prime Minister Christopher Luxon elevated bilateral ties to a Strategic Partnership and adopted a Roadmap to 2030. Both nations set a goal of doubling two-way trade to NZ$7 billion by 2030 and expanded cooperation in defence, maritime security, tourism, agriculture and sports. Modi also addressed business leaders and the Indian community, recalled a 30-year-old muffler linked to his earlier visit, and highlighted India’s growth story, digital progress, infrastructure expansion and Viksit Bharat vision before returning home.
