Starlink says it is ready to begin operations in India once it receives the required authorisation. Speaking at the India Mobile Congress, Lauren Dreyer, Vice President of Starlink Business Operations in India, said the company has already built India-specific ground infrastructure, including 20 gateway sites with hundreds of antennas, and has established controls to meet Indian security and regulatory requirements. Dreyer said Starlink has been working with Indian regulators, telecom operators and industry for years, including partnerships and MOUs with Airtel and Jio. She said Indian user data would remain within India and argued that Starlink could help tackle the country’s hardest connectivity challenge — the last mile. From connecting remote Himalayan villages and northeastern communities to supporting disaster response, fishermen, farmers and telecom towers in areas where fibre is difficult to deploy, Starlink outlined its vision for satellite-powered connectivity across India. Dreyer also highlighted SpaceX’s existing links with India’s space ecosystem.
