He added that while AAP leaders were jailed in "absolutely fake cases", but why is it that no one from the Gandhi family has went to jail.
AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal said his party would not be intimidated by this “misuse” of central investigation agencies by the Modi government.
The political battle over the Anti-Criminal Neta Bill intensifies following a fiery showdown in Parliament. Union Home Minister Amit Shah staunchly defends the proposed law, which mandates the removal of Prime Ministers, Chief Ministers, and ministers detained for 30 days on serious criminal charges. Shah argues that governance cannot operate from jails, targeting opposition leaders like Arvind Kejriwal, who ran Delhi’s government from Tihar Jail for 160 days amid a liquor scam case. Highlighting his own resignation during past charges, Shah insists the bill, backed by PM Modi, applies universally, even to the PM’s office. He critiques Rahul Gandhi’s “doublespeak” on morality, citing Gandhi’s past rejection of an ordinance protecting convicted lawmakers like Lalu Yadav. Confident of parliamentary support, Shah believes opposition leaders may back it on moral grounds. However, opposition parties, led by Kejriwal, dismiss the bill as a political conspiracy, labeling Shah’s morality claims hypocritical.
According to senior officials, the bill aims to provide a legal mechanism for automatic disqualification of top political office-bearers if they are arrested and held in custody for an offence punishable by five years or more.
While speaking at the launch of the Punjabi edition of a book titled The Kejriwal Model, the AAP leader said despite repeated attempts to block his government's work in the national capital, his administration delivered effectively.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta accused the former AAP government of constructing a ‘Sheesh Mahal’ instead of helping slum-dwellers, as she announced an allocation of Rs 900 crore for basic amenities in slum clusters.
Delhi has a new Chief Minister. Rekha Gupta took the oath of office at a grand ceremony at Ramlila Maidan, marking the BJP’s return to power in the capital after 27 years. She is the fourth woman to hold the top post in Delhi. Alongside her, six key ministers were sworn in, including Parvesh Verma, who defeated Arvind Kejriwal, Sikh leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa, and Purvanchli representatives Kapil Mishra and Pankaj Singh. The event turned into a massive show of strength for the NDA, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and NDA chief ministers. The presence of prominent women leaders, including Bansuri Swaraj and Diya Kumari, signalled the party’s emphasis on women’s empowerment. Team Rekha has already set its agenda, vowing to expose corruption under the previous AAP government.
The case is based on a complaint filed in 2019 accusing Kejriwal, former AAP MLA Gulab Singh, and Dwarka Councillor Nitika Sharma of installing large hoardings using public money.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta took a dig at her predecessor and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal while speaking at the India Today Conclave. Mentioning the ‘sheeshmahal’ controversy, Gupta said that she is not the kind of Chief Minister who “sits and works in a sheeshmahal”. Asked by Business Today Executive Director Rahul Kanwal about how she handles the ‘boys club’ in reference to BJP giant slayers, including Parvesh Verma - one of Gupta's cabinet ministers - who dethroned Kejriwal from the New Delhi seat, Rekha Gupta said she felt like the ‘naayika’ (heroine) from the Bollywood movie ‘Nayak’. She also promised to clean up river Yamuna in the next three years and said she planned to start river cruises on similar lines as in Ahmedabad.
