The rupee appreciated 4 paise to Rs 44.30/ USD at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market in morning trade on Thursday, on the back of strong FII inflows and appreciating Asian currencies against dollar.
Forex traders said apart from dollar's weakness against other Asian currencies, capital inflow into equities by foreign funds kept the Indian currency's sentiment firm. However, demand for the American currency from importers capped its gains.
The rupee ended flat at Rs 44.34/35 a dollar in the previous session.
Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange index Sensex rose 87.49 points, to 19,959.64 in the opening trade.
