Nikhil Advani-directed spy thriller 'D-Day' failed to light up the box office, collecting just Rs 11.50 crore in the first four days of its release.
The movie stars Rishi Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Huma Qureshi, Irrfan and Shruti Haasan. D-Day's plot centres around a group of RAW agents assigned the job of bringing back to India a terrorist from Pakistan.
Opening with a
poor 15-20 per cent occupancy on the day of its release (July 19), the movie fell further over the weekend. Its box office collections on Monday were recorded at just Rs 1.75 crore.
'Ramaiya Vastavaiya', which released on the same day, was comparatively better off at the ticket counters. The movie has collected Rs 14.75 crore over the first four days of its release, with Monday alone contributing Rs 2 crore.
According to analysts at
Boxofficeindia.com, D-Day's low budget could be a reassuring for its makers as even great reviews from critics and industry members could not lure movie goers to the theatres.
At a special screening of the movie last week, Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan had said: "I had a wonderful experience watching the film and it will take me a lot of time to gather and understand my emotions and feelings for the film. Right now, I have no words to express my feelings for the film."
Filmmaker Karan Johar too praised the movie. In a post on microblogging site Twitter, he said: "D-Day, taut, gripping and incredibly made... a strong emotional layer that gives it gravitas... performances are top notch."
According to
Boxofficeindia.com, D-Day's first week box office collections are expected to touch about Rs 16 crore, termed 'poor' in trade terms.
