Satyagraha, a socio-political thriller directed by Prakash Jha, had an average opening at the box office on Friday, with collections ranging from 30-50 per cent.
In his latest venture, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor, Jha will focus on the common man and highlight his aggression, struggle and demand for justice. The film also stars Manoj Bajpayee, Arjun Rampal and Amrita Rao.
According to Boxofficeindia.com, though the movie has a big and popular cast, the genre may not be popular enough with the youth to drive them to the ticket counters. Trade analysts say a good start was always going to be tough for the movie.
'Satyagraha' opened solo at the Bollywood counter on Friday. Opening at both multiplexes and single screens was seen to be average.
Primarily shot in Bhopal, 'Satyagraha' has been produced by UTV Motion Pictures and it has reportedly been made on a budget of Rs 50 crore.
In times of aggressive promotional and marketing schemes, Jha emphasised on utilising the digital platform to spread the word about the film.
According to Boxofficeindia.com, Satyagraha's box office collections will be dependent on word-of-mouth praise. The trade magazine expects the movie to do better in Central India as the film is set in Madhya Pradesh.
The bollywood trade magazine says the weekend holds the key for 'Satyagraha' as it will have to show an upward trend to hold on to good sales. The film has been released on 2,700+ screens.
