WhatsApp Calling now available for Windows Phone

WhatsApp has finally rolled out its voice calling feature for Windows phones. The WhatsApp Windows Phone app now allows voice calls over mobile data or Wi-Fi - also called VoIP or voice over Internet protocol.

The feature has been available to Android, iOS and BlackBerry users for months now. While Android received the voice-calling feature in March, iOS and BlackBerry got the feature in April.

The WhatsApp Windows Phone app update (version 2.12.60.0) also offers users more features like sending audio files (currently available on Windows Phone 8.1).

The calling feature is available for users of Windows Phone 8 and above, according to the Windows Phone listing notes. It also adds that users cannot access emergency service numbers through the WhatsApp Calling feature.

The messaging app crossed 800 million monthly active users in April, according to WhatsApp CEO and co-founder Jan Koum.
