Courtesy: ReutersMeta COO Sheryl Sandberg ended her 14-year-long association with the company. Now in another blow to the company, Jerome Pesenti, Meta's VP of AI, is leaving the company. The company revealed that Pesenti will depart from the company in mid-June after helping the company through the early stages of the AI transition. Pesenti has been a part of Meta for the past four years.
"We are grateful for the incredible work Jerome has done over the past four years in building, leading, and scaling a world-class AI function for Meta. As part of this transition, I am sorry to share that Jerome will depart Meta in mid-June after helping us through the early stages of this transition. We are grateful for the incredible work Jerome has done over the past 4 plus years in building, leading, and scaling a world-class AI function for Meta," Andrew Bosworth, Chief Technology Officer wrote.
Bosworth also announced that the AI technology and community at Meta will also convene a new cross-functional AI leadership team led by Joelle.
In a surprise move, Sheryl Sandberg announced her exit from the company. Sandberg said that she wants to focus on philanthropic work, therefore breaking her 14-year long association with the company. Sandberg announced that he will leave his post in the fall but will remain a board member.
"Fourteen years later, it is time for me to write the next chapter of my life. I am not entirely sure what the future will bring I have learned no one ever is," she wrote. "But I know it will include focusing more on my foundation and philanthropic work... And as Tom and I get married this summer, parenting our expanded family of five children. Over the next few months, Mark and I will transition my direct reports and I will leave the company this fall... I will continue to serve on Meta's board of directors," she said.
Sheryl will be succeeded by Javier Olivan, who will take up the role of the company's next Chief Operating Officer, Meta CEO announced through an official Facebook post.
"Javi will be focused internally and operationally, building on his strong track record of making our execution more efficient and rigorous. As part of this, Molly Cutler, our VP Strategic Response, will join Javi's team and report to Naomi Gleit," said Zuckerberg.
