A day after the Trump administration claimed it had revoked 85,000 U.S. visas, mostly belonging to students, President Donald Trump has launched a controversial new immigration initiative: the “Trump Gold Card”—a $1 million Golden Visa offering wealthy foreigners a direct path to U.S. citizenship. Announced on his Truth Social account, Trump said the program will “bring tremendous money into the United States government.” Under the new rules, individuals must pay $1 million, while corporations sponsoring foreign employees must pay $2 million plus annual and transfer fees. Applicants undergo a stringent $15,000 vetting process, and after five years, may qualify for citizenship. Families may apply, but each applicant is subject to additional fees, medical checks, and full U.S. taxation on global income. Gold Card status may be revoked over security issues or serious criminal activity. A separate “Trump Platinum Card” is also set to launch, allowing holders to stay up to 270 days a year in the U.S. without paying taxes on foreign income. This move stands in sharp contrast to Trump’s earlier immigration crackdown, raising questions about policy consistency, economic strategy, and the future of U.S. residency programs.
