Telangana Bill: Move towards ending uncertainty but questions remain, says AP industry

Andhra Pradesh industrialists see Tuesday's Telangana development - the Bill creating the new state was passed in the Lok Sabha - a step towards ending the uncertainty over the issue. The question of whether it will get through the Rajya Sabha no doubt still remains. "It seem to be ending the uncertainty though questions still remain about the execution and implementation of the provisions of the bill," says K. V. Vishnu Raju, Chairman and Managing Director, Anjani Portland Cement Ltd.

There is also talk of some amendments to the present Bill and industrialists would want to know what those are, he added. There are also questions about the financial packages both for the new state and the rest of Andhra.

BVR Mohan Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director of Infotech Enterprises, feels any move that ends the uncertainty will be welcomed by industry. No doubt there is an emotional component also involved and people have strong views about the division, which needs to be sorted out.

Industry, he feels, is unlikely to be affected in Hyderabad or in the rest of Andhra Pradesh as "both the regions are on a growth path". There would be no great impact on Hyderabad as it would continue to grow and leverage its cost competitiveness and the abundant skills available from several engineering colleges in the region. As for Andhra, he says, there could be new investments depending on the package of incentive that the government will provide to the region.
