Bollywood seems to be having a good time at the box office this year. Aashiqui 2 and
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani have turned out to be blockbuster hits of the year. Can Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor starrer Raanjhanaa follow in their footsteps?
Raanjhanaa has made a strong debut on the box office, with its weekend collection topping Rs 20 crore. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said in a tweet, "#Raanjhanaa collected approx Rs 20.08 cr nett in its opening weekend. Breakup:- Fri 5.12 cr, Sat 6.81 cr, Sun *est* 8.15 cr."
Though the figure trails the opening weekend collection of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani by a huge margin, it is comparable with the tally of
Aashiqui 2.
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which has crossed the Rs 180 crore mark till now, pulled in close to Rs 60 crore in its opening weekend. In comparison, Aashiqui 2 collected close to Rs 19 crore in its opening weekend.
Buoyed by good reviews and forthcoming release of its Tamil version Ambikapathy, Raanjhanaa's collections are likely to pick up.
"#Raanjhanaa packs a solid punch," Adarsh said in another tweet.
Eros is set to release its Tamil version Ambikapathy in 200 screens across Tamil Nadu next Friday.
