Box-office clash: Ranveer Singh's 'Bajirao Mastani' races ahead of SRK's 'Dilwale'

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Bajirao Mastani' and Rohit Shetty's 'Dilwale' have been clashing at the box office ever since their release on December 18. Both movies are in their second week and it seems quite clear that the historical war drama starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra, is racing ahead of the much awaited Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol starrer in the domestic market.

The total net collection of 'Bajirao Mastani' after 11 days at the box office is estimated to be around Rs 123.25 crore while that of 'Dilwale' stands at around Rs 118.50 crore net. The former has done what most big-banner films have not been able to do in front of a Shah Rukh Khan starrer and has emerged as a clear winner.

Ranveer Singh's 'Bajirao Mastani' is a period film that was expected to cater to only a selected audience while Shah Rukh Khan's 'Dilwale' is a family entertainer that had all the ingredients that could make it a box-office hit.  As anticipated, Rohit Shetty's out-an-out commercial flick opened to a much bigger success as compared to Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus but it soon started to trail behind it slightly.

Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone essay the titular roles of Bajirao and Mastani respectively in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's depiction of the life of Peshwa Bajirao I.

The film has been extensively praised both in India and intertnationally and it expected to have a good run at the box office. On the other hand, Rohit Shetty's Dilwale has Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in lead roles and the star cast is enough to drag audience to the cinema halls without even thinking once.

Both the films have entered the Rs 100-crore club already in the domestic market. As for the second week, 'Bajirao Mastani' collection at the box-office on its second Monday was around Rs 5.25 crore whereas for 'Dilwale', it was estimated to be around Rs 3 crore net.  Except for the opening weekend, the Rohit Shetty's entertainer has been behind Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film but it would be interesting to see how their box office clash shapes us as their collections has not witnessed a drastic gap till now.
