R Veeramani Case: Granite Tycoon Faces Widening POCSO Probe In Chennai

At 84, granite industrialist R Veeramani, founder of GEM Granites and chairman of the GEM Group, is facing a widening POCSO investigation in Chennai. He was arrested in August along with two associates following allegations of sexual offences involving a minor. The case began with a pen drive containing video evidence and later expanded after a special POCSO court rejected an attempt to close the probe. Police have since identified additional alleged victims and are examining digital and financial evidence, while also investigating how the earlier probe was handled. Veeramani has been described by some media reports as “Tamil Nadu’s Epstein”, though police have said the Epstein angle does not apply.
