US President Donald Trump announced that Venezuela will use funds from a new oil deal to purchase only American-made products, including agricultural goods, medicines, and energy infrastructure equipment. The announcement was made on Trump’s Truth Social platform. The statement comes days after the US launched a large-scale strike in Caracas that led to the dramatic capture of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. The White House said the Trump administration remains in close correspondence with Venezuela’s interim leadership. Trump has also stated that the US will control proceeds from 30–50 million barrels of Venezuelan oil to ensure oversight and transparency.
