Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, in MEA briefing on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit, highlighted that India and Russia held extensive discussions on advancing the proposed Free Trade Agreement between India and the Eurasian Economic Union. Both sides agreed to fast-track negotiations to conclude the FTA within stipulated timelines, following the recent finalisation of its terms during the External Affairs Minister’s Moscow visit. Misri added that talks also focused on accelerating negotiations on the Bilateral Investment Treaty to boost two-way investments. Key connectivity initiatives, including the International North-South Transport Corridor, were reviewed, with both sides noting their potential to cut transit time and expand India’s trade access across Eurasia.
