equities provisionally closed 158 points lower on Tuesday but managed to hold
on to the 16,000 mark, amid selling in realty, banking and energy stocks.

The Sensex had touched an intra-day low of 15,952.54 points.The benchmark had closed Monday 471 points higher.
The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchangealso ended lower at 4805.10 points, down 46 points from its previous close.
