Have you ever tried shooting in the Burst Mode with your smartphone? Using burst mode, you take multiple shots continuously in a fraction of second and then the camera also suggests the best picture out of all the frames. Yes, burst mode or continuous shooting mode is a photo feature that is unused by many of us. But what is so good about it is that a photographer doesn't have to manually check and pick onto a good photo out of so many frames. The camera itself suggests an image with correct frame, exposure as well as movement of the subject.

Canon's Photo Culling app has been released for Apple iOS users. The software does something similar in regard to proposing good photos. The app automatically detects and deletes abrupt shots taken by a user. Such an application comes handy for beginners who tend to click many images while practicing. It is also useful otherwise as it helps saving one's time and storage space on a device.

But how all of this happens? Canon is doing so with the help of PHIL, Photography Intelligence Learning, an artificial intelligence engine that analyses and grades your photos. According to Canon, PHIL "is used to detect the photo score using AI technology, to show how good or bad the quality of your photos are."

PHIL judges all the images on the basis of five aspects: putting together similar photos, noise, sharpness, emotion and closed eyes. The app then organizes photos "in minutes", giving scores to your shots for digging onto the best ones. Photo Culling app also deletes duplicate or degraded shots. The whole process of analysing and deletion of photos is automated but users can also control it.

Users can set the criteria for the Photo Culling app on picking up photos. There are two options available - First, Similar Culling which determines the best shots based on your criteria thresholds. Second, Whole Culling which is based on a score comparison among a similar group of images. Additionally, Photo Culling app keeps a count on photos taken and storage space used on the device.
