'Awarapan 2' box office: Emraan Hashmi’s film crosses ₹150 crore, riding high on nostalgia

Emraan Hashmi is proving that nostalgia can still be a powerful force at the box office. Nearly two decades after the original Awarapan built a loyal following with its emotional storytelling, music and Hashmi’s intense screen presence, Awarapan 2 is turning that nostalgia into a major theatrical success.

The Nitin Kakkar directorial continued its strong run on Day 10, collecting ₹8.75 crore net in India across 13,632 shows, according to Sacnilk. The film registered a 6.1% growth over its Day 9 collection of ₹8.25 crore. With this, its India net collection reached ₹136.25 crore, while the India gross stood at ₹162.50 crore. Overseas earnings of ₹1.50 crore on Day 10 took the film's worldwide gross to ₹192.80 crore.

Emraan Hashmi's nostalgia-driven comeback

The biggest talking point behind Awarapan 2 has been Emraan Hashmi. The actor returns to a world that audiences associate strongly with his early career, bringing back the brooding, emotional persona that made the original Awarapan memorable.

The 2007 film may not have been a major theatrical success when it was released, but over the years, it developed a strong cult following. Its music, particularly the emotional soundtrack, and Hashmi's portrayal of Shivam helped the film acquire a nostalgic status among Bollywood fans.

That nostalgia appears to have translated into footfalls for the sequel. The makers also retained elements associated with the original while presenting a new chapter in Shivam's story.

Second weekend brings fresh momentum

Awarapan 2 opened its second weekend on a strong note. After collecting ₹5.75 crore on Day 8, the film jumped to ₹8.25 crore on Day 9 before rising further to ₹8.75 crore on Day 10. Its overall occupancy on Sunday stood at 27.06%, with evening shows recording 36.31% occupancy.

With ₹136.25 crore net in India and the worldwide collection nearing ₹200 crore, Awarapan 2 has firmly established itself as one of Emraan Hashmi's biggest box-office successes.
