OnePlus takes a dig at Samsung ahead of Unpacked event

Samsung is all set to launch its new foldable smartphones at its Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for tonight. While the world waits for the new Samsung phones, OnePlus has taken a dig at the tech major in a recent tweet.

Mocking the foldable form factor, OnePlus has tweeted a teaser video of its own smartphone. In the first look, it seems like the company is preparing to launch its own foldable device. Though a closer look at the teaser reveals that the video in fact contains two OnePlus smartphones cleverly placed side-by-side to look like a foldable smartphone.

Other than the witty placement of the devices, OnePlus even included the launch date of Samsung's event as part of its teaser. Naturally, Twitterati assumed that the company will be revealing its own foldable smartphone (out of the blue, of course) on the same date. Many, thus, were anticipating a face-off between the smartphone majors.

Such reactions to the tweet, however, were completely unfounded, as it turns out that the video was nothing but a gimmick by OnePlus. The company probably wanted to steal some limelight from Samsung on its big day and it seems like it succeeded at some level.

As for the tweet, the 16-second video shows two OnePlus 9 Pro smartphones placed side by side, meant to depict a foldable form factor. It shows the now famed date - 8/11/2021 towards the end.

As can be guessed, Twitterati had a field day with the OnePlus gimmick. Many expressed their desire to get their hands on such a "foldable" OnePlus device, had there been one in the makes. A particularly hilarious tweet even mentioned an apt name for such a device - "Two plus One."

Though focusing on what is, Samsung will likely be launching the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 tonight. The Galaxy Unpacked event has been scheduled for 7:30 pm IST today.
