Box office: Student of the Year set to gross Rs 13 cr in second week
Karan Johar's latest directorial venture Student Of The Year continues to do well on the box office, set to gross net Rs 13 crore in its second week.

The movie, released on October 19 with newcomers Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan, did especially well on October 28 as it was a holiday on account of Valmiki Jayanti.

Its collections on the day were seen to be between Rs 1.5-1.75 crore in the North circuit. The Johar-Red Chillies produced movie is nearing the all-time collection of Rs 60 crore.

The story revolves around Abhimanyu Singh (Malhotra) and Rohan Nanda (Dhawan), who traverse the path of competition, envy, triumph, failure, manipulation and heartbreak in their mini-universe of St. Teresa's High School, Dehradun. When Abhi and Rohan's rivalry takes an unexpected turn to friendship, neither pre-empts the complications that would brew. Things are further knotted up when Shanaya Singhania (Bhatt), the most popular girl on the campus enters the equation.

As new ambitions are born and old loyalties fall by the wayside, each segment of the Student Of The Year competition manages to tear apart both, the participants and the spectators, to redefine the choices of the three protagonists.

Student of the Year has benefitted much from the festive season. The movie's collections in the east region surpassed those of Rowdy Rathore, Housefull 2, Bol Bachchan and Cocktail.

Student of the Year was the fourth biggest opener of 2012 in West Bengal after Ek Tha Tiger, Agneepath and Barfi!.
