Lautrec, whose legs had stopped growing when he was a child and hence stood at 1.54m (5ft 1in), had painted as a series of famous posters for Paris' Moulin Rouge club, and was known for his wild social life and constant visits to the brothels.

As per Toulouse-Lautrec Foundation's website, the late artist "shared the lives of the women who made him their confidant, painting and drawing them at work and at leisure."

The website added that it was Lautrec's favourite model, a red-haired prostitute known as Rosa la Rouge, from whom he was believed to have contracted syphilis.
