Xiaomi launches Mi Protect insurance service

Xiaomi India has announced the launch of a new insurance service for Mi smartphones and tablet users in India. The Mi Protect is a service available for Xiaomi devices that can be purchased from mi.com and at the moment are valid on the devices purchased from mi.com only.

Mi Protect covers accidental and offers liquid damage cover along with free home pickup and drop, and free second servicing within one year from activation. Other benefits covered under the Mi Protect include 24X7 call center support to report damages, two repairs (restoration of full amount after the first repair), one call to block your SIM from anywhere in the world, SIM misuse insurance cover of up to Rs 3000, smartphone assistance to resolve all your Mi phone related queries and docusafe of up to 1GB to store and access all important documents from anywhere in the world.

As per standard insurance claim guidelines, user will have to pay a nominal fee of 3 per cent of the repair cost or Rs 300 (whichever is higher) while claiming the protection against the Mi phone.

The Mi Protect is available for Redmi 2 and Redmi 2 Prime for Rs 275, on Mi 4(16GB), Mi 4i and Mi Pad for Rs 499. The pricing is very competitive when compared to independent insurance available in offline and online space. At the moment, the protection service is available at the time of the purchase of the phone and not as a standalone service. The insurance is valid for one year from the day of activation.
